Buck Activity

Post by Exocet77 »

Anyone starting to see any good buck signs yet? Mid week the temps are gonna be dropping a little bit anyways. Hoping by the 28th 29th (holiday time) the pre-rut will start pickin up to do a few all day sits.

Seen some rubs two weeks ago, nothing since as it has been too warm in our area. Have heard reports that the young bucks are running and playing around a bit.
You will be right in the seeking phase which starts Oct. 26. The chasing phase starts by halloween Oct.31 for ten days. This should be the peak of the rut . This all depends on the weather of course. I will be hunting Nov. 3&4 dark to dark.
Good luck teammate.

Yep. Seeing some scrapes. More and more rubs. Saw an 8 pt chase off a fork horn today with a fawn trying to get in on the action trying to catch them. Was quite funny.

Seen some scrapes & actual light sparring between a 6 & 8 pointer. Found one spot where it looked like a pretty good shoving match had gone on.
Throwing in some light rattling ("ticking" the antler tips together) on my hunts now.

I haven't seen a scrape yet, but have found lots of rubs in my area. At least 50 in total. None of the rubs look large, but there sure are a lot of them. I have noticed deer moving at all hours of the day this whole month. There seems to be more movement in mid-morning than early. All of my shots fired this season have been between 8:50am and 9:55am.

Not many rubs here, had tons of them last year at this time. I've got a large spike visiting a mock scrape that I keep fresh. No big bucks yet. Maybe when it gets a little colder. It's been too warm here in the NE.

I have some rubs in the woods behind my house. He tore up 2 small holly trees and a small cedar. I have him on camera; a young 6 pt. hanging around with 6 or 7 does. He doesn't need that many does, so I'm going to relieve him of one.

I have found one rub on a field edge so far and I did see a scrape with no licking branch last weekend. My dad also found a scrape with no licking branch in a differant location the other day and he saw a nice buck. The last two days I have been out, I had a chance at a nice 8 point both times. They were two different deer in different places. The second one (last Saturday) was chasing a doe when he went by me.

Yesturday morning on my way back, found to fresh scrapes either made through the night or that morning just off a rub line from last year. Noticed theres some new rubs sprouting up the trail as well.
Didnt think there was much of a spot to setup until i came to a deadfall. Made a nice area against it added a few sticks on top of the tree to my back for extra cover. Im bed in pretty well, could be a good spot, gonna try maybe this am or tomorrow.

Lot's of scrape activity and rubs all over my area. The bucks are cruising the scrape lines and they are on the move. It is time to get out the Tinks.
