It depends what the individual gun 'likes'. While I've had good results with an open choke (cylinder) have also seen guns with full chokes shoot respectably. With a smoothbore use the Forseter slugs (non saboted).
I would say cylinder bore, aren't most most dedicated smooth bore slug barrels fixed cylinder? I know mine is.

the ad for challenger slugs says safe to use in anykind of choked barrel.the is a lot of info on www.brennekeusa.com about slugs. has anybody used federal tru ball slugs?
The non-standardization of both bores, chokes and slugs requires experimentation. The most accurate combination is where the slug fits the bore and choke the closest.

I would have to agree with Cossack and Boo. I've shot a lot of slugs out of a lot of different shotguns. It's a learning process with each one. The only thing you'll find is "what the hell do you do with the rest of the box of shells that don't fly so well? " Kind of like the experimental arrows.
I have an old winchester single shot 12 gauge that I have used for all my deer. It is a full choke and I can hold a 3 inch circle at 60 yards with HOMEMADE sights taped to the barrel.
I tried rifled slugs on my Winchester 120 pump, and I must use a full choke to hold a 3 inch circle at 50 yards. With any other choke, I get strays. I am still not confident enough with this gun to use for deer hunting.
