Congrats! I retired a year ago at the age of 54 and I haven't regretted it one bit! I'm young enough to enjoy my retirement and I worked hard for 31 years.

Now you have time for all of the bow hunting you ever wanted. :D

Congratulations and welcome as a new member to the Retirement Club I hope all goes well for you. Before you take your next step, stop and take a deep breath --- think --- and then go. When I retired at 51, I was advised by many to get another job. I had decided to take 3 months before I made any decision. I did exactly that and never returned to a "JOB" where you had to be regimented in a work schedule. I puttered at handyman projects at home and helped neighbours and friends. It is now 14 years later and I have been going steady with this and that all along. Kids got out of highschool and we decided to do our thing as a couple. Had 2 - 1 month long trips in 2002 anhd 2003. My good wife of 35 years was diagnosed with ALS and died in 13 months in 2004- on my birthday. So much for all the hard work and the stay at it mindset as I have been f by the f f of f.
So dick go for it and don't stop for anything.Live each day to the fullest doing what you want to do.
Good luck!
Great thing I have hunted all my life as it is great time in early early morning and after sunset to sit and watch and listen to day- nature get up and go to bed and night- nature go to bed and wake up --- think , think, think, -- then slip away home to bed myself.

I'm down to 17 months until I retire from the Navy with a full 30 years. Still deciding on where I want to go and if I want to work. Starting to get a little nervous, haven't known anything else except being a Sailor. Not worried about it though, the retirement will cover the bills and have enough money left over for bolts and bullets.

Congratulations Dick,
However, it may be only a vacation, about 6 months, you need. I tried retirment once for a year. It sucked. So I went back to work with folks who really wanted me there. I have to put up with a little BS from the know-it-all puppies but nothing compared to what I used to put up with. The folks want me there and it feels really good. Maybe something will turn up in TN after you take a break.

PS. I love to hunt the ridges of Cumberland Furnace, TN. We always do well there. Good Luck to you
