Need some arrow suggestions

Post by colonel62 »

Its me again with another arrow question. Apparently this stuff is way over my head. I have been reading a lot on this forum and this crossbow stuff is complicated. I expected to just get some factory bolts and they would shoot fine, but it seems you really have to do your homework. So if anybody has some free time I wonder if they good recommend a good arrow combination for me down to the "t". I would be shooting 100 grain montecs, and would also like to use some arrow wraps. I also saw where a lot of people recommend 2 inch blazer vanes, so I will use those. So what arrow do I need to shoot that will give me the fastest shot? What inserts or nocks? Would my FOC still be ok? (don't even know what FOC is)
I guess what I am asking is what arrow will give me the fastest shot but still shoot good groups. Please help....... I am lost.

I just got an 08 exomax. Dont know if anyone needs to know that or not.

This is the one I Like. I also like easton powerbolts, 2 inch blazers,
Shoot great from my exocet. They weigh close to 380 gr with 100 grain tip, foc of 12.3. Slick tricks 100 gr magmum. To get a higher foc I would use 125 gr tips. But these shoot great for me. Do not know the speed but a BOO string is a big Plus.

If you do a search here you will find lots of info, Still comes down to trial and test. I took 2 arrows just to experiment with, used hot melt glue so I could remove the inserts, The heavier the vane, the lower the foc.

Good luck, It takes some time to get it just right.

My first suggestion would be to get your mind off of speed, there is no need to try to increase it, none at all.
The best arrow is a consistant arrow.
Second, asking someone to pick an arrow combination for you is similar to asking what key is best for your front door, nobody knows but your bow. There are a few little things you can do and ideas you can steal that will assist you in the quest for a good combination, but ultimately the final decision will come from your crossbow.
Having said that there is a combination that many of us use with great success, a carbon shaft, usually a GT II, brass inserts for a high FOC aluminum nocks and two inch Blazer vanes. Once capped off with a 100 grain broadhead you end up with about 435 grains of arrow.
It is about experimentation, I tried every combination of every shaft, insert, and vane combination before I settled on what I described above, what works for me may not necessarily work for you, even if you shoot the same bow. One of life's great mysteries I guess. :D
