Found yet another way to wound myself.
I don't know why I admit this stuff..
I had my bow in the carport to work the creep out of a new string, every time I walk past it I rip a half dozen arrows through it then leave it cocked and move on to my next project.
Well, my wifes uncle passed by to give me some electrical tips for our renovation, he too is a Excal shooter. I showed him my bow and was showing off the Boo string and letting him see how quiet it was.
Well, when I set it down last I put the rope cocker on, reefed the string in to position and sat it down, rope cocker still in place. How I managed not to see that rope cocker on there I do not know, I slid my arrow in, lifted the bow to my waist and let one fly 10 yards in to my target. Well that damn rope cocker swung up and slapped off my pinkie so hard it shattered the "T" handle, instant pain! I played it off and re-cocked it to give him another sample of what it sounds like without the lash of an extra rope with big heavy ends flying around, that arrow actually made it to the target.
Sheesh, Now I feel like going and having a cigarette with the guy in front of Shooters Choice.

In so many ways I have more fear of my excaliburs then I do my firearms.
There is just so much harnessed energy in the limbs that I have become extremely cautious since I hit the tree with a limb last year shooting at a great buck.
I used to carry the crossbows cocked with safety on. Now I will not do that. I carry with the rope cocker in place and ready to cock the way others here have mentioned.

David . . .like I've said before, some things are best left untold.
Especially when the information has a very high probability of not helping prevent another from such harm. How the heck did you miss seeing the cocker? OK . . .on behalf of the other blind crossbow shooters out there . . .BEWARE OF ACCIDENTIALLY LEAVING THE COCKING ROPE ON THE STRING . . .the results of shooting with the cocking rope on the string could be harmful to your health.
Take two aspirn and report back in the morning.
It could have been much worse. Glad you are OK.

Guess I just got doing too many things at once, I still can not figure out how I missed that rope cocker.
I shot from the hip, thank goodness. I dragged a target beside my carport for the sole reason to shoot out my string, it was ten yards or closer. I had done it 50 times in the hour before from the hip.
If I had it properly shouldered it could have been much worse, but then I know I would have seen all the extra ropes hanging down.
My rope cocker still functions, but I bought myself a flinch out of the deal, I will work that out today though.

Hope you're able to lose the flinch in time for the hunting week! Be the arrow...

That next week hunt is tomorrow!! My finger is sore as can be, but it is the price of being a fool, I deserve it. I will likly go for X-rays if it keeps swelling... Only, and I mean only after the hunt.
