I've killed deer wearing a full orange vest and hat on the NWR land around here. It is MOVEMENT that gives you away. Gotta watch the hats, and gloves are a definite no-no!
I've also killed quite a few deer wearing bib overalls, flannel shirts and chore jackets.
Camo gear is much overrated ... and a BUSINESS.
That said, it can help some, but it isn't nearly as important as folks make it.
Nothing helps like being hidden and / or staying still.

Grizz
I think it has been decided that deer can see blue. I have a orange vest that is 30 years old and that seems to work okay but the new ones with all the ultra violet brightners really seem to spook um. I've watched deer come out and spot me 25 feet up a tree wearing new blaze orange even though Im not moving a muscle. A new vest almost glows in the dark. With the new one I have, I have been hanging it outside for two years to bleach in the sun and have the wife wash it every time she does the laundry and it is still not right.
Most brand name laundry detergents have UV brighteners right in them now, so washing with them won't take the shine off new hunting clothes. Try getting the cheapest no name detergent you can find and wash it a few times to strip the UV brightener. then wash in a scent free hunting detergent (to get rid of the harsh, cheap soap) without UV brightener.
Read an article last year about a study on deer eyesight that used light filters to simulate the rod and cones in a deer's eyes. The result was blaze orange is seen as a dull yellow, similar to dried leaves, and blue was seen as florenscent purple. Who can saw how accurate it is, but I don't worry about blaze orange ( the deer don't seem to either) and don't wear blue jeans hunting anymore.
