if I had a 8x7 walk by he would probably be on the wall unless I missed or he was out of range :P

Ive admired huge bucks that were out of range, but if he's in range and he's mountable I dont wait. I spend hours, days, and months planning for a buck like that. I have let quite a few 18inch wide deer walk though, perhaps admiring them in hopes they grow 20 inches the next season. But no way something with 8 good pts on one side is gonna walk into shooting range and get back out.. thats just me though :P :P

The only story I can really share thats similair was this fall when I good solid 8pt walked by. I debated shooting him, but for the area he was good enough. Well I was trying the new BH 209 powder out for the first time. I put the ML up, he was 18 yards and pulled the trigger.. I heard a WHACK, shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhppp and nothing. The deer looked around and just started walking away. I was puzzled since the cap went off. With the new T/C endeavor you can remove the breech in stand. So I did just that. Half the powder was burnt. I blew most of that out, reloaded, and hit the grunt call. I wasnt expecting anything to happen, but then here comes that same buck right back at me. I put gun up and then fate just took over. He had gotten a second chance, so I lowered the ML'er. I actaully got a chance to get a better look at him and he wasnt as big as I had first thought. So he trotted on under my stand and off into the woods. I never saw him the rest of the season, nor did I hear of anyone killing that deer. Hopefully fate repays the favor this fall and he walks by again, just bigger 8)

BTW, I have not used the BH 209 powder since!

My problem is that I seldom let any buck within range walk.
Here in Ohio with 1 buck per season that means a lot of seasons end with me hunting does only, and another small rack to convert into a coat/hat rack.
