Carded at Wally World.
I know this incident happened to me in Canada at Bass Pro just north of Toronto, however it ticked me off. At the firearm display counter,I requested to handle and get the feel of a rifle and was asked for my FAC card. I do not carry it with me and when I advised the salesperson of this , I was told that I could not be given the gun. I was surprised at this and wonder if this is the policy for all Bass Pro outlets in Canada.
In my opinion this is allowing paronia to go too far from a practical perspective.

Unfortunately it is a fairly common occurrence around here, not in a computer or cash register, but some stores keep ammo purchases recorded in a binder in the locked cabinet with the ammo.
In your case I would be concerned with who has access to that information, they now know what gun you own and where you live.
Intrusive, sorry to hear that.
I hope it isn't a sign of what is to come.

You're right. My bad. Unfortunately, we've gotten pretty used to being harassed here... We need to show our FAC and then we are escorted to the check-out with our ammo in a locked bag carried by the clerk who hands it to the cashier.bstout wrote:Vix, I think you meant "It's almost as if I was in Canada".VixChix wrote:Wow, it's almost as if you were Canadian!
We're not used to being harassed when it comes to our guns.
But they'd let us carry spam knives, baseball bats, aerosol cans of toxic, flammable goo.... all of that is no problem. Go figure.

Yep, you get escorted to the cash by a 16 yr old kid who doesn't know a 12 guage from a .308. I don't care about that so much. It's the ones that want to write down my name, address, ammo purchased, etc. in their ringed binder that they keep under the counter. Had one fella argue with me that it was very confidential and secure, they keep it locked up at all times. As he was taking my info, I stated the obvious. "How secure is the info of the last 8 people on this page that you and I are both looking at right now?" .
He was speechless.

id have to agree with bass pro on this one. if you are gun shopping youd have your PAL with you to make the purchase. if you dont have the license its a waste of time for them to show you the firearm until they know you may actually buy it.bbbwb wrote:I know this incident happened to me in Canada at Bass Pro just north of Toronto, however it ticked me off. just think of how many unlicensed people they need to deal with every day and you'll understand why they do this.
shopping at smaller shops is nice sometimes as once you go there a few times they recognize you and dont ask for your license anymore.

last year my brother and I went to look at shotguns, I had my lic. he didn't bring his, the salesman wouldn't let my bro touch a gun , his eyes nearly popped out when i went to hand one over to for my bro to holdbbbwb wrote:I know this incident happened to me in Canada at Bass Pro just north of Toronto, however it ticked me off. I don't agree with having to record p.a.l. # with an ammunition purchase especially you see the way these books are left laying around the counter. Maybe a quick look at the card but documenting each purchase is crazy. I always thought that the c.f.c. would monitor these ammo purchases at some point and cross reference with the buyers registered guns to see if they were buying ammo for someone else or maybe had some firearms they "forgot" to register. It's a shame that law abiding gun owners seem to be under more scrutiny then illegal immigrants or even sex offenders.
