Sounds like you've made a great choice for your crossbow!
With my Phoenix a single dot sight would work fine for hunting. I use a vari-zone scope since the magnification helps my aging eyes, but for hunting I use the main crosshair only! Just sight in at 25 yards and a "center of the kill zone" hold will take any deer out to 30 yards.
