I've had a family membership with the OFAH for as long as I've had a family. I mainly got it for the lobbying they do on behalf of all hunters / anglers, the OOD magazine, and as an added bonus - the family public liability insurance.

What I've found though is they are really focussed on Southern Ontario. For those of us in Eastern and Northern Ontario there isn't as much interest or representation.

Fuel80Guy: I'm sorry to hear about your buddy's uncle's accident. But the OFAH insurance is public liability insurance and not disability insurance. It doesn't cover falls from treestands. Think of it as more of a legal defense fund to protect you from lawsuits in case you start a forest fire, run over someone's garden with your ATV, or God forbid, you accidentally shoot another hunter etc.

I've been a member for about 20 years and while I do applaud their efforts in lobbying for gun owners and hunters rights I feel that with an organization as large as they are they could do more grassroots work in terms of hands-on conservation and habitat restoration. I prefer my money to go straight to conservation and restoration programs not into buying magazine companies and producing TV shows. :?

I've gladly been an OFAH member for the last 18 years. In recent years I have started to get more active at my OFAH Zone level (attending Zone meetings, raising issues, etc.) I don't alway agree with everything the OFAH does, but that would be the case with any organization. In my opinion, what makes the OFAH so effective is their professionalism and credibility, which in turn gets them the ear of decision-makers. While one group might be waving signs and shouting outside of Queens Park, the OFAH is inside meeting with the Minister.
