Turkey hunting when its 90 isnt good

Post by crazyfarmer »

I went to call for a friend today and man was it HOT out! Its 89 here right now and definitly one hellova difference from last weeks 60's for highs. Ticks and pesky skeeters were out in full force. The forecasted highs here untill next Wednesday are supposed to be upper 80's to lower 90s so turkey hunting isnt going to amount to much unless you get one before 7am..

When it's like this, and you don't get him off the roost set up close to water he's thristy, turkey aren't like deer when in love

I heard about 6 gobbles all morning and was working a Tom.
Unfortunately some hens got between him and my decoys and stole him away. Game over. LOL.
I can't compete with that and they were calling better than I was, too.
They outdid me!

Still a fun day and I learned to sound like a real turkey a bit more. I was trying to mock those hens as best I could with my slate Ring Zone call.
I did pretty good.

An hour after this, I called a hen back to me and started shaking from excitement. Maybe she saw me or something.
I had a decoy spread with 2 hens and a jake.
