figured i'd get something hunting related going in here
ok, say you had two 4.5 year old bucks at 20yards. Both gave great shots and both had their heads behind brush so you could shoot easily. One was a 16inch inside 8pt with 14inch G2's. The other was a 22inch inside 8pt with roughly 10inch G2's. Provided you could shoot only 1, which would you take? The wide one or the narrow buck Both had roughly the same mass and brow tines
its no trick question I just want to see who likes width over height
I would take the one that got there first, I am not a trophy hunter and I would hate to leave the second one feeling inadequate.
Better yet, bring a friend and take them both!

You would take them both with that machine gun you tote.
I like the width too.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.
Perception trumps intention.

Just so we are clear here, I only own single shot rifles.. I do enjoy semi's, and support those who shoot them. Besides, a pump gun is a machine gun to you Scott!

Mike P we really need to have a talk before I leave for Texas. I'll take a tall and tight rack with mass over a wide spindly buck any day. "High n Tight", that's how I like em .
I had almost the exact scenario a few years ago during bow season. One was a high rack 10 with 12-14 inch tines and the other was around a 20-21 inch inside 9. They came into my mock scrape walking together. Awesome sight at 18 yds. Both presented perfect broadside shots. I, for whatever reason blocked out the wide 9 and went for the high 10. I have taken some nice wide racks so maybe subconsiously I wanted him because he was different from the others I had taken. I think when something like that happens hunter instinct takes over and you make decisions based on experience. Its a lot like duck and goose hunting you pick a certain bird out of a large flock and focus completely on it. When you think back there was no particular reason for choosing that bird it was just instinct. That bird caught your eye and the decision was made in a split second to take it.
