I know of one forum member that will disagree with your statement Spitfire.SPITFIRE wrote:Have switched to ladder stands. I find them very safe to climb in and out of.
Ground hunting vs. Treestand (deer)

I think that is a good summation statement Spitfire, and very accurate. Ladder stands are certainly safer then hang on stands.SPITFIRE wrote: Anytime we go into the woods we are taking a risk. Some risks are smaller than others.
Any time you go aloft and are not tethered by some sort of safety device you are at risk.
I now never leave mother earth without being fully tethered to the tree via a complete full body harness. I am hooked up entirely with my feet still on the ground.
More and more falls are occurring each year from ladder stands. I attribute this fact to the growing popularity of this style of stand.

I get uneasy up around 15ft so I stay below that.. 28ft I would panic and fall for no reasonmikej wrote:mike we're glad to have yu but you could have taken an easier path to get here seriously though 28 ft you're lucky to be alive
ya'll should see me when I have to climb the grain tanks.... I start to sweat like someones got a gun to my head
Based on kills only...
Treestand: 41% Ground 59%
I guess I'm equal opportunity. During the rut, I really like to be in a stand. In the early season when everything is thick I'm equally happy on the ground either sitting or stalking.
Oddly enough, the largest bucks I've taken with a rifle (8pt), crossbow (9pt) and compound bow (7pt) have all been from the ground. With a muzzleloader all of the nicer bucks I've killed have been from a stand.
The terrain and the wind dictate my setup each day.

80% Tree stand and 20% Ground. I love ground hunting when there is snow on the ground. The rest of the time, tree stands allow such a good view of everything around you, like watching a live T.V. Nature show, and everytime a different one!
