After missing clean on my first shot , this doe from last fall stuck around to let me re-cock and shoot again. Who else has been so lucky?

Ill admit it..When I first started hunting(with a compound vert bow)I missed 2 times on the same doe..I thought it was at 30 yards,so i shot and hit high..clean miss....she spooked..but came back to the same spot..this time i aimed 25 yards and clean miss again!!..she took off flying through the woods....But now i got my trusty rangefinder to help me judge distances
I have never missed with my crossbow yet. But it has only been two seasons hunting one week each season, Now that i am in Tennessee full time and will be hunting every day it could change, I sure hope it doesn't
Last fall I shot a doe from my treestand. While tracking it stumbled across 2 more does that were crossing a creek infront of us. Shot high at the first one giving it a little haircut on the back. It wandered off unscathed. Reloaded and shot the second one double lung. By the end of the day we recovered the first doe I shot from my treestand and the second one.

Me too, I taken many where I may have missed the 1st shot and reloaded and taken a 2nd. But I have taken a good many 2nd and 3rd and some 4th shots to load up on deer in one day. When I was getting paid for shooting deer I dropped 18 in 4 days. I kept running out of arrows and had to climb down to retrieve ones I shot.
Second morning of bow season 2008 grazed the rail on my first shot. Never did find my arrow. It's probably in the next county! Deer came back head on. I drilled it in the neck and threaded the body. Recovered it quickly. I am now calling this "forbidden" shot the MNR shot (Manitoulin Rectal Shot) because it was the opposite of a Texas Heart Shot! For the full story and picture see the
trophy thread of last year.

P.S.
How about a thread on "forbidden shots" we have taken?

I'll say! I once had a buck totally confused by a miss, I managed to draw my crossbow while he was looking the other way, but he sure pegged me on the "click"!

Guilty. Had a buck and a doe walking down a trail toward my tree stand. They stopped and turned off the trail at 30 yards. i shot at the trailing doe, hit a branch and just missed her under her chest. Bolt stuck in a tree. I knew they hadn't been too spooked and hadn't gone far so I recocked in the stand and gave a couple of soft grnts. Saw the back winding his way back toward me. Waited until twelve yards then took the shot and got him - single lung 250 yard recovery. Learned allot of lessons that afternoon
Never needed a second shot (except to dispatch one that was down, but not quite out yet) with the crossbow, but I actually had one stick around for a missed shot, a dropped arrow, and finally the third arrow (which DID hit the target) with a longbow several years ago.
