Arrow turning on impact.....Help?
Arrow turning on impact.....Help?
Last season I purchased the Exomax, Easton firebolts and wasp broadheads. Shoots great. However, both deer I killed last season were 15 yards broadside and I shot both just behing the shoulder(Perfect shot). On the doe I took the arrow turned and exited the rear ponch just before the hams. The eight pointer I took the arrow turned and exited the front right soulder. Any suggestions???????

Since it's slow on here I might as well start a discussion.
I've been deer hunting with an Excalibur for about 10 years now. I've used carbon & aluminum arrows and fixed & mechanical broadheads. I've shot 2 or 3 deer most of those years.
I've never had an arrow deflect off the ribs! In one side & straight through in every case.
Most of those shots have been broadside or very slightly quartering (probably a 30º angle maximum) and the arrow has blown through ribs like they weren't even there.

I might add that I have used a Vixen, and Exocet (175#), and a Phoenix for all my deer hunting. I wouldn't think the extra velocity from the Exomax would cause the arrow to deflect off ribs, but I have no experience there, so I could be wrong.

If that is correct I don't think deflecting off bone would be the cause. Sounds more to me like an arrow problem.both deer I killed last season were 15 yards broadside and I shot both just behing the shoulder(Perfect shot)

Like wabi said its a FOC problem ,the rear end of the arrow push the arrow sideway on impact.Heavier broadhead or brass insert may cure the problem.

I'm mindful that this is a sample of two. Best advice: go shoot at least 10 and see if the 'problem' persists.
Sounds to me like tha folks complaining about bullet failure when a bullet 'mushrooms' too much, leaving a large exit hole...in a very dead animal. Dead is dead, right?

Vortex, Phoenix, single-shot rifles and handguns.

Turning arrows
Thanks guys for the info. When shooting the targets I see no problem, they do great. It's just on the two kills last year I did get complete pass throughs, but they just turned once they made contact. Cossack, your right Dead is Dead. Ill try again next month when the season opens. Thanks for the advice everyone. Deputydog
