Are RAGE worth it????

Post by muzzler »

Do the Rage broadheads hold together and expand well in crossbows?? I have an Exomax and shoot Firebolts carbons. Slick tricks I shoot seem to be ALL over the place.

I shoot Rage 3 out of my Exocet200. They shoot excellent 1" groups at 45 yards

If your slick tricks are all over the place then there is something wrong with your set up. It is truly rare to hear someone complain about the accuracy.
I carried the Rage last year but switched because the blades never stayed put. Accurate yes, kinda fussy. They do make big holes but the slicks are probably the most successful broadhead out there right now.

Another vote for slicks (ST). But I have to say Don that I had an accuracy problem with them too. Was using a stock Carbon Express arrow with 5" vanes. I switched to high FOC arrow and they really shine. Don't bother to prctice with Bheads any more.
Using Gold Tip Lazer II's 110, gr brass insert and 2" Blazers, 100 gr ST mags. Weighs 405 grns and FOC over 18%.
Vortex, Phoenix, single-shot rifles and handguns.
Incurable tinkerer.
Why hunt? Simple, it's BASIC. Why breath?!

I'm VERY anal about groups and accuracy on any setup I use. Its an obession! Slick tricks grouped very good for me, but they were 2inches right of the fieldtips. A simple scope adjustment was all I needed. but when I shoot fieldtips, I would have to move the scope back 2 clicks.

I tried rage when they first came out and havent looked back since. The accuracy is simply amazing! Put a fieldtip on a shoot 50 yards. Switch the the rage practice head and watch it smack the EXACT same hole.

some complain about the blades getting loose. Just simple check the head before you load it and snug the blades back into place. I always check any bhead before I put it on to make sure its tight! I want that 1 shot to count.

The entry and exit holes are UNREAL... You can almost run your fist through the deer. I mad a bad shot on a buck last season and it basically gutted the deer for me. I probably would have lost that buck, but he only went 70 yards on a GUT shot:)

39.99 seems high, but most heads are 24-32bucks now easy... I'd rather spend a little more and know I have the best flight out there when that one shot counts.. but thats just me and im very picky about small things. Plus I never reuse any bhead ive shot a deer with so cost and reuse doesnt bother me at all

Like a buddy of mine said about some expensive bullets (Barnes) for his muzzleloader,
"I paid $45,000 for a hunting truck, $1,000 for a shotgun, wear about $500 in hunting clothes, and use two weeks of my vacation to hunt - why the he** would I complain the bullets cost $1/each - they work!"

I tried them in the past and when the blades stayed closed the head killed deer. But The blades would open in my quiver and god forbid I bump the arrow on something.

Too much of a pain in the butt. I had one BH pop open at the wrong time...as I was drawing on a doe. :x Not for me, I sold the rest I had and went back to my trusted, tried and true Magnus Buzz cuts. :!:

Shoot what ya want this is the reason why I don't fee; the Rage are worth the $$$. :D

can't we all get along....

muzzler,
Slicks were the same way for me using stock Firebolts out of my Exomax. I couldn't keep them in a pie plate at 20 yards. I added brass inserts to the Firebolts to increase FOC and now they shoot EXACTLY like my field points. The only drawback was the speed loss of the heavier arrow. Granted I would have more penetration with the heavier arrow, but even the stock Firebolts get pass throughs. I have these arrows on the shelf in case I am ever hunting in a blind with shoot through mesh and I need a fixed head. Or if I need to shoot something big. :)

I've taken four deer with Rage 3-blade heads. The heads overachieved every time. Even on a couple with less than perfect shot placement on my part, the huge hole always dispatched the deer quickly. Nothing I've hit has made it 100 yards after being hit by a Rage.

I love the Rages for the accuracey and massive wound channels....dead on with my field points to 50 yards. The biggest issue I seen was the o-rings, you have to make sure the blade doesn't engrave a dent in the o-ring, if it does it will cause the blades to not lock in. I've been using the Muzzy 4-blades because I can get 6 cheaper than 3 Rages, all the deer I shot ended up in the freezer regardless of which broadhead I used, simply just a matter of economics.
