Scope Question ?

Post by vortexhunter »

I just put a scope on my vortex on the weekend, and would like to know if its ok. When I put the elevation level with the limbs, the scope is tilted to the right. If it was a clock face the scope would be tilted at about 1 'oclock in the rings. Is this ok or is the scope bust? Thanks.

If I'm understanding your problem the reticle (crosshairs) are not verical/horizontal? If it's an Excalibur scope give them a call. This is not right, and I believe they will correct the problem with an exchange.

1st thing you do is loosen the rings. put CB on solid platform, then put torpedo lvl or any small short lvl you have. make sure the rail is plumb, when is plumb put lvl on top elevation cap and ck to make sure its lvl. then slowly snug the rings screws down. before they're tight look thru scope to see if its twisted on xhair. if it is bad scope, send back fer replacement. if they're looking good finish tightning it up and start shooting.

I would add to what smokepolehall said:

I build a make shift plumb bob with 1/4" white braided rope and a heavy weight on the bottom (a 2L pop bottle works good) I hang this plumb bob from the basement celling about 6 yards. out.
Make sure the xbow is secure in a cradle and the rail is level with a torpedo level, rotate the scope so the vertical cross hair can split the white rope of the plumb bob the full length of the vertical cross hair.

The tighten the rings to the recommended torque foot pounds.

Leveling off the top scope cap and the rail should be the same, but I trust leveling off the rail the most and use the scope cap level to confirm.

The reticule should not be internally out of alinement with the body of the scope.
