Fånga upp med er killarna senare.

Post by Mike P »

Catchy title for a post don't you think?

Translated loosely it says "Catch up with you guys later."

This is kind of a "spare of the moment" type trip. I have a bunch of frequent flier miles that are about to expire and suggested to the Swede that we run down to St. Lucia for a week of relaxing and fishing.

She suggested we fly to Sweden and visit relatives for a week or so.

I said absolutely not as she will drag me there to ski later in the year and once a year to Sweden is enough.

We arrive in Umeå tomorrow night.

Catch up with ya'all in about a week if her wacky relatives don't kill me in a sword fight.

Is Umeå a suburb of St. Lucia?

If that message title had appeared in my e-mail inbox, I would have immediately deleted it as spam. The only reason I clicked on this thread is because it had Mike P's good name attached to it

Hey, I said loosely! :D

You're lucky my Swedish is that good!

I get enough correction from the wife regarding my Swedish, I don't need it here.

I have yet to find one of your countrymen that can speak Texan!

Mike, for a writer, and being from Texas, I would of thought that you know the difference between spare and spur. :P

I'm just "pulling your chain", so you can "spur us the trouble" of explaining, it was a typo.

Well, now it's a clean sweep.

My Swedish and my English are being corrected.

Down where I was raised we use spurs on horses.

And we spare a moment.

And when we do something at the eleventh hour we do it at the spare of that moment, kinda like a seven ten split.

Geeze, I bet Hoss understood what I was saying.

It must be a Texan thing.
Here in Canada, when we "spare a moment", we make time for something, whereas we do something "at the spur of the moment", when we do it suddenly or on a whim.

For example: Adv. 1. on the spur of the moment - on impulse; without premeditation; "he decided to go to Chicago on the spur of the moment"; "he made up his mind suddenly"

Check out this link. Which is correct Spur or Spare.

"spare of the moment"????

Post by flightattendant100 »

I'm from Texas and I've never heard that in my life. It has always been "spur of the moment" around here, but since Texas is so large I'm sure that there are many dialects of "Texan".Love your stories though, quite a knack.
