It is 6:59 and I am up and ready, just need the sun to come up.

Didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night, tossed and turned and kept reliving every aspect of the shot over and over again. It is amazing all the things that can run through your mind at three o'clock in the morning.

I thought about all of the deer that have been written about here on the forum that have not been retrieved. I kept thinking about Crazy's buck that he didn't find. You always dwell on the worst case scenario at three in the morning!

I will be on my own also for this attempt at finding the gray face. Doc has to work and Shrader is in Columbus for two days on business. Becker with his bad knees is not an option. I will probably press the Swede into action.

I have to meet Doc up at his office at 5:45 this afternoon. We are shooting sporting clays this evening and then having the once a month "wild game dinner" at the club. I really hope to have pictures to share with all the club members.

I still fear I hit this buck too far back and the thought just nags at me.

It seems like the sun just won't make an appearance.

It's the old "watched pot doesn't boil" at play here.

Found him about an hour ago. He went another hundred yards and all down hill towards the creek bottom.

I have a heck of a task ahead of me. This is a huge body buck, well over three hundred lbs. and I will have to handle this recovery alone.

Just went over to Doc's house to get his Kawasaki Prairie as it has a winch but the battery is stone dead. I will have to use my Honda Foreman and run a long rope down to him and try to pull him up out of the hollow. This is going to be a daunting task.

This is the largest body buck I have ever killed. To use CF's terminology and call him a pig is an understatement. This thing is more like a buffalo.

I will post more pictures later documenting the entire hunt but here is a teaser for you. Now I am off to see if I can get this bad boy home.

So glad to read that you found him before the coyotes did. Sounds like he's a bruiser! Looking forward to more pics if you survive the recovery.
