Why, thanks for saying so, Bob.
I'm flattered!
Jimminy Christmas...no humility there..and besides he was talking about me Adam.. ....and sorry your flattered is that like a gas problem or something....lmao..I love pickin on you grizz..Ive seen some real ugly scary pictures of you and that combined with your character (jking) which is questionable to say the least.. I think we may be twins...
Oh sorry to go of topic there...but yes meat hunters I did alot of that in my younger days till I got married OOPPPs did it again..
I ment to say that around these parts you wait on a big boy you may never kill a buck..to many poverty striken folks ( some just trash that dont care) that kill deer year around just to eat. I cant say i blame them if your starvin you do what you got to. If I was manageing a place I would be more selective. Down on the river bottom where I hunt racks I do pass on the young fellers. last year saw twin 8 pointers that if they made it will be monsters this year and ifn i get a poke at them they are in trouble..early in the season I love to pop doe to eat. Its personel. I have had so many doe bust me and blow at me that the score will never be settled there.LMAO. I enjoy with a certain passion downing a mature doe for sure. Some are more educated than most bucks and are very hard to kill.

I don't like mature bucks for eating.
No way.
Not that I won't kill one ... but I think of them as "donation deer"!
In many parts of southern ontario, the buck to doe ratio is so spread, that more does need to be taken.
For instance, I had 16 deer in front of me tonight. 15 were does and fawns and one was a young 8 pt. Now I know there are a few more bucks around, but still not anywhere near 1:1 or 1:2 even.
And when it seems the rut starts around here, a ton of small bucks get shot.
This year I have had pics of one mature buck only. Atleast what I would consider a mature buck. 3.5-4.5 years plus.
Personally I would much rather shoot a doe then a small buck with the hopes that some day that small buck will be a big guy.
Pretty tough to do though when you are surrounded by the spray and prayers, and one week hunters. "If its brown, its down".
spect i could be more selective if i saw 16 deer at one time! i ain't saw 16 deer so fer in the 50 days the season has been open here. in fact i have saw 3 deer & 5 yotes. i have more yotes here than deer. get that antler soup going !
Hey, if I was only getting a chance or two a season, I would be not near as picky.
But as it is, I have 5 tags. 2 bow, 2 ml and one shotgun. And 92 days of season. My closest stand is 150 yards from my house and I have numerous properties to hunt.
I am fortunate to not need to shoot a small buck. And can do what I consider to best for the local herd by shooting some does.
I am very fortunate.
For many parts of southern ontario I think they need to revisit the way tags are given out. Even maybe just more antlerless only permits or "earn a buck".
Just some food for thought , some of those does that are being shot hold monster buck genetics waiting to be passed on to future generations. Too bad we can't tell which ones. Although I shot a doe 3-4 years ago with a body bigger than many bucks.
Whatever I shoot, buck or doe, it goes in the freezer then gets cooked and finds its way to my stomach.
You can take the man out of the woods but you can't take the woods out of the man.

Yes I agree, it's a shame the way tags are sold in Ontario. The MNR sells tags on a first-come-first-serve basis. As long as they get their revenue dollars, their objective is met. It's obvious that the MNR doesn't give a hoot how, or to whom they sell tags to. The fact that you have 5 tags, while others are fortunate if they get one, makes it obvious.
However that's how it works in modern soceity, it's just a fact of our life and times, and it's a crying shame.
Well anyone can buy extra tags. Deer tags and moose tags are not anywhere near the same here.
EVERYONE gets a buck tag when you buy your licence. ANYONE can then purchase (depending on numbers) extra tags for specific hunts, ie. muzzleloader only season or bow only season, for certain WMU's. Not all WMU's have additional tags.
So the tags are there for everyone and done on a first come first serve basis, so it is very fair. I just think they allow for too many bucks to be shot in certain areas.
