It occurred to me that my .44 also fits under my pillow much better than my long guns.

There's nothing more versatile than a 12 guage shotgun with a smoothbore barrel if you want the ability to switch from birdshot, to buckshot, to slugs. I'd go with the Browning Hi-Cap 18" barrel BPS...short, light and having a lefty in the family (wife) the bottom eject enables any shooter to use it.
My Ruger 10-22 with either the 25 or 50 round magazine. Ammo can be found anywhere. A thousand rounds could fit in the side pockets of my cargo pants. Although I would need a belt or my knickers will be showing. Can fell much larger beasts than it was intended, and plenty of smaller ones.

i would be going with a good shoot gun .most likly a double barrel 12g or a pump .canot kill them last forever .wll keep food on the table .and the bad guys outside .DUTCH
