Exocet Rail lub

Post by Snuffy »

What do you use to lub the rail on your crossbow??? I always used string wax but was told I should use vaseline. I just don't think thats very good advise. Any input would be appreciated.

Anything sticky like Vaseline will attract dirt which wears deck and string. Try using Jig A Loo, silicone based product, spray onto rag then wipe on deck. Dries quickly to form slick surface. Spider Venom works about the same. I generally just lube my serving (sparingly) with Daltons and work it in, that' seems to be enough
Vortex, Phoenix, single-shot rifles and handguns.

I would recommend just waxing the string. Some chemicals can "eat" the camo finish and additional wax on the rail will collect grit. A string maker on this forum recommends daltons wax and thats the one I intend to buy shortly.

Keep it clean is the main thing. I use a silicone based spray to clean the rail. Just be careful about getting silicone on the string. Silicone spray is effective at removing wax. Not a characterist of a substance you want on your string.

I found a teflon based lubricant used to lube bicycle chains. It goes on dry. It's a good product, a little expensive.

*****EDIT > >>Oh yeah . . .I have waxed the rail with car wax. I do that about twice a year. That helps keep it clean, dry, and slick.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.
