Can't get Blazers to stick!
Re: Can't get Blazers to stick!
Gave up on Goat Tuff and Boehning glue long ago. Gorilla Brand crazy glue (blue top) best I've tried. Vanes don't come off. Put on thin layer, close EZ Fletch, applying pressure for about 15 seconds, remove. Let dry couple of hours. Sticks, don't get brittle and crack, so tough arrows fly through target and vanes stick.
Using thin layer and pressure is KEY to using cyanoacralate (crazy glue). Femoval of air in joint makes it stick. Does not sticks well if no pressure is applied.

First off I heard from a bunch of sources that acetone ruins the fibers in carbon arrows/bolts.
Second, if you want an easy vanethat attaches easy and sticks to everything, try Norwy Fusion vanes. I've never tried such an easy fletching vane and I don't think I'll switch to anything else anytime soon. They steer broadheads like no other.

I scrub my carbon shafts with comet cleanser. Then i use 91% alcohol let it dry before applying glue & vanes/feathers

Re: Can't get Blazers to stick!
I have always used acetone on the shafts, trick is not to let it sit on there for too long.
I definitely got a bad batch, left a set of three vanes in the AZEZ overnight, each one with a different glue. The Bohning cured on the shaft but didn't stick to the vane, both versions of crazy glue refused to stick as well, even more interesting is the glue didn't harden, it was still wet between the vane and shaft after being pressed all night.
I just used different vanes with same glue and got my usual flawless bond.
If they show up in the trading post, please disregard this thread.

It's the silicon in the plastic that stops from sticking, I use feathers and good ole Fletch Tite and have no issues what so ever

In a word: horsepucky! Acetone does not ruin carbon arrows if used as a cleaner...may etch them if they contain fiberglass or plastic. But then, I've never used any. It will affect plastic nocks..but I don't use those either.TYE wrote:First off I heard from a bunch of sources that acetone ruins the fibers in carbon arrows/bolts..
Blazers and Fusion are some of the toughest, stickinest vanes I've tried. No prep necessary.

Re: Can't get Blazers to stick!
The company I work for built the machine that processes (makes) the Blazer Vanes. Its very possible, if not probable that they missed getting a primer applied to them. Contact Bohning Archery as soon as you are able and I gurantee they will make this good for you. This company holds to the highest integrity of anyone out there.

I agree with you Cossack. Acetone will surely damage the plastic nock. Take it from my experience because I already did that foolish thing. So, never ever use acetone on plastics.Cossack wrote:In a word: horsepucky! Acetone does not ruin carbon arrows if used as a cleaner...may etch them if they contain fiberglass or plastic. I definitely agree with you Cossack. Acetone is definitely affects the plastic nocks. So I never used Acetone.

I have the same aversion to plastic one......after a bow disintegrated when one failed.

Re: Can't get Blazers to stick!
Bohning's primer, which the Vane is prepped with is not acetone. I am not at liberty to say what it is but is a key factor in the Vane's ability to adhere to the arrow, any type of arrow. Also, by the time the Vane is in the end-users hands, all traces of the compound have long disappeared. The compound they use alters the surface of the plastic at the molecular level, creating a "rough" terrain if you will for the glue to grab onto.
