The first year I had my excalibur I did it twice! Lucky for me both times I had my steel toes on from work. It's a very unsettling feeling when you do it.

Re: everyone please read..
I am certainly glad your ok, ummmm thats ruff. I never walk in semi-dark nor dark with an arrow in my Bow. I take my arrow out up in climber uncock Bow lower it to ground. If i feel there is very good chance of seeing a deer i have my rope cocked on Bow ready to cock it. Arrows right by my hand in quiver
Re: everyone please read..
Yep I will admit it I did that as well but realized I had an arrow in before any damage to my foot, just a mark on the boots. I now unload by shooting a arrow with field tip into a target.

Bill T mentions that in one of the instructional videos never heard it happening till now.
Glad you are all right and still have all your toes.
I will be sure to take the arrow out before lowering the bow and decocking it.
I bet you had that funny feeling that says OH MY GOODNESS.

Re: everyone please read..
this is a new for me never thought about it but could definately see it happening, especially in the dark. on raising and lowering my hard and fast rule is NEVER raise or lower with the weapon pointed at me,regardless of xbow, rifle, whatever. while the stirrup is convenient i tie to the thumbhole or just the pisol grip of the stock so that the weapon is pointed toward the ground. make your pull rope short enough so that the bow or gun is hanging a couple feet off the ground.
Re: everyone please read..
Not funny at all.
The only way to avoid it happening is make it a habit to ALWAYS remove the arrow BEFORE leaving your hunting spot.
One can unload by shooting the arrow into the ground, but then the chances are that your braodhead will be ruined.
Once I'm ready to leave my stand, I'm done hunting for that session and I will not "still hunt". Therefore, I always remove the arrow, place it in the quiver, then attach the quiver back onto the bow. Only then do I start back to camp. I will not walk with a loaded bow.

We all need or at least I need a reminder now and again!!
Glade to hear you weren't seriously hurt.
But now , what board head did you use and how did it hold up against your toe?

Yep, that'd be an eye opener. Might even make your eyes water I think xbow hunting has more things that can bite you than any other kind of hunting...gotta always be in your "A" game.

You are not alone in doing this, I did the very same thing only I reached down and broke the carbon bolt with my right hand. Good thing they snap pretty easily. I had just came out of the woods hunting and was talking to some family members and totally got distracted. It can happen!! Glad you didn't get injured.
