Maybe I should have bought an Equinox

Post by havok »

I just bought my first excalibur crossbow, a phoenix. I had Barnett's new buck commander but the string broke after the 15th shot, not good, so I returned it and bought the Phoenix. The xbow shoots great but now I'm wondering if maybe i should get the Equinox.

The only plus of the equinox is the thumbhole and not everyone likes that anyways, your phenix will not limit you and you will get passthrus with it!!

You may get the Equinox later but you'll never have a real reason to regret having the Pheonix.

I walked into my local hunting shop about a month ago with the intention of buying some arrows for my Renegade Alpha-1 compound. Instead I asked one of the archery salesmen a simple question, "What is the best bang for my buck in a crossbow?" Well, a few different models went into my hands and then magically my wallet appeared out of nowhere and hovered above the counter near the cash register. It was like a blur before my eyes and then accessories started to appear too. Then I blacked out only to awaken minutes later driving my pickup truck home. I thought that maybe I was just daydreaming until I looked into the back seat to discover a ton of newly purchased crossbow equipment.

Later that night I did a lot of internet searching and decided that I wanted the Vortex instead. I called my dealer back the next morning and he said that I could bring the Axiom back in order to upgrade (which I did). Then I found this silly forum page at Excalibur crossbows that has a bunch of characters with colorful names like Boo, Groundpounder, and Crazyfarmer. They only got me looking into all the possibilities of accessorizing my new hunting utensil.(thanks everyone)

All that to say, "you'll love that xbow." :D

thanks guys for the input. I think I was suffering from the "I gotta have more speed" disease, haha. It's a great bow, it handles better than the buck commander and just looks great, too. I just ordered the cheekpiece, flemish string, crossbow stringer and the deluxe padded case. Can't wait to go hunting with it!!!

Been there done that. Started with an Equinox but it was more bow than I could handle comfortably to shoot repeatedly. Not good., 'Downsized' to a Vortex. Good. Then a long overlooked Phoenix hanging on a sport shop wall called to me. Followed me home that same day. It gets the nod more often than the Vortex or the compound speedbow I just had to have.
The Phoenix/Ibex is the near perfect deer bow. Accurate, great trigger, virtually indestructible (one dryfire and one partial, no damage) easy to cock and uncock. Great. :D
Vortex, Phoenix, single-shot rifles and handguns.
Incurable tinkerer.
Why hunt? Simple, it's BASIC. Why breath?!

man you have got a great bow longer string life less stress on the limbs that babe will take out anything you need & shoot all day every day no problem unless you plan on shooting elephants or buff, at the end of the day its only a couple of yards in it between 175 & 225 lb bows. regards frank

I went the other way started with the bigger bows and now shoot the Phoenix tons of power for game in north america.
I like my Phoenix so much I am buying another off a forum member for my son.
