Close call but spike down
Learned a lesson yesterday morning about wearing accessories around your neck when using a compound bow. I've practice shot with no difficulties wearing my binos with a neck strap. What I failed to consider is when in treestand and a downwards angle, they tend to swing out from my body.
Took the compound out with me yesterday morning and was in stand by 6:30 am. I grunted once at shooting light, around 7:20, and shortly after I look up and see a buck standing about 25 yards to my left. He takes a few more steps across in front of me behind some trees and I draw. Now he's about 20 yards broadside to me and I release. Now for the lesson learned.......
As I touch the release my head is jerked forward which almost caused me to fall out of the stand. I gained my composure enough to watch the lite nock hit high on the buck...I spine shot him behind the shoulder and he dropped. Unfortunately it took a second shot to finish the deal.
The 100 grain 3 blade rage did an amazing job.
*****I will certainly be more aware of carrying items on neck lanyards in the future. *****
It turned out well with some nice tender meat for the freezer.

If the thrill of the hunt is lost, then I have lost.

WOW!! Sounds like a close call. Glad you didn't get hurt or fall from your stand.
Congrats on a nice deer!
