O/T snow blower education needed
I figured you folks from up in the more northern country have more knowledge on the snow blowers than anyone. So Im wanting to get one and I dont want a cheapo from the depot. I would rather spend a little more and a piece of equipment that I can use for years to come. So Chime in. all advise welcome... I would use it at home as well as try to pick up some side jobs in toiwn when possible...
Thanks
Hoss

How much area do you need to clear? That will determine a single stage or two stage. We tested several brands for the gov here in Ontario and I can say Toro was the best for the money. I purchased a Toro shortly after our testing.

I would go the the John Deere two stage. Yes, they are not cheap, but they last and last. You can even get them with hand warmer grips.

I have a small TORO single stage 2 cycle, it out blows my larger off brand 2 cycle machine. TORO is the machine!

4stroke and as wide and big as you can comforably afford. The more Hp the better its going to handle hard paked snow/ice, and wide so you dont have to spend more time doing it then necessary. There are chinese products everywhere and snowblowers are no exception. Stay away from them!

Ive done some looking and Toro looks good the ariens is good. My driveway is about 100yds long to the main road.....and then I intend to do some other folks as well as try to make a buck so this thang can pay for itself...so Im thinking 2 stage with at least a 14inch auger.
yes Scott that is in the plans as well.. wish i could find a plow local for that dodge

100 yards? That's not a driveway, that's a road! Get a plow for your quad.Hoss wrote:Ive done some looking and Toro looks good the ariens is good. Re: O/T snow blower education needed
It's more a matter of time. One hundred yards is not going to take a couple of minutes. A decent quad with a plastic blade will get the job done in a fraction of the time the blower will and there's barely any maintenance........a hundred yards! LOL! I bet your driveway entrance has a different address than your house!Hoss wrote:I thought about that too------but needn to get in around stuff makes me lean towards blower..but I have not decided yet !!!

Re: O/T snow blower education needed
I just finished plowing my home driveway and the shop's drive way/parking lot with my 500 honda foreman. The shop driveway is roughly 100yards and its amazing what a quad can plow through. Much more than I ever thought possible, but it hyas its limits like everything else. If you go that route make sure you have decent treads, or chains. but it might be the cheapest way to get out there and plowing white gold
