You will need to find a balance here. Your Vortex will shoot 330fps with a 350 grain arrow. Every 5 grain increase will slow your arrow about 1 fps. A 500 grain arrow will still launch at 300 fps, which is still very respectable.

Hi Troy,

You'll be trying to fight a battle against physics if you try to increase weight without decreasing speed. As you increase your arrow/broadhead combination your speed will be reduced. There is some good news, however. That doesn't mean you'll have a less effective set-up. Speed isn't all that it's cracked up to be. What you're actually looking for when you're hunting is energy upon impact. Sometimes with a heavier set-up speed is reduced but force on impact is increased. There are many posts on this topic and a handy chart at the following link:

http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/conten ... _selection

If you select 150 gr. arrowhead and dyna string and compare it to the ballistics of 100 gr. arrowhead and dyna string chart, you'll see that the 150 gr. arrowhead will shoot more slowly with each bow but it hits with more force on impact (this is what causes the arrow to penetrate into your target). For example, my bow with 175 lb. pull will shoot 290 fps and hit with 78 ft. lb of force with a 150 gr. with firebolt and shoot 305 fps with 76 ft. lbs. of force with a 100 gr. head.

Hope this is handy information for you. I personally don't buy into the theory that speed kills when it comes to bows. In my opinion, force on impact is more important. Of course the last thing is that increasing the speed of my bow won't make more animals walk in front of my tree stand either. Too bad!

When I had a Vortex it was shooting 400 gr arrows at 300 FPS with a standard Excal string
At 300 fps it is plenty for any big game you are going to hunt in North America.

If you really want the extra speed either find someone who wants to step down from the Equinox and trade rails or sell your Vortex and by an Equinox.

I am shooting 420 gr 22" carbon arrows from my Phoenix no idea what speed they are but they are consistent that's the most important to me.

Have fun(cause it is always fun to shoot these bows :D ) trying different ones but when you get a combo that is flying true stick with it.

Also,,a heavier arrow will quiet the bow as well. If you shoot the 350 g arrow just once, you will notice the noise for sure.

When you find out, let us all know. Always heard that this is pretty much impossible.
