Dad's gun...

Back in 1933 my father turned 16 and for his birthday his parents bought him a .22 rifle and a hunting knife. I remember the knife when I was a kid but it's long gone, I believe lost on a camping trip by one of my brothers back in the 1970's. As for the gun, I still have it. My father was never a hunter or even a serious shooter but I do know he enjoyed "plinking" with it when he was younger. He also taught my mother to shoot with it when they were first married back in the early 1950's. Eventually it was handed down to me, in fact it was my first gun. After too many years of residing in our gun cabinet, today it went out to the range with us. We decided our son was ready to graduate from his pellet gun to what he calls "a real gun". He's done an awesome job learning gun safety and safe gun handling over the last little while with both his pellet gun and even his toy guns. The gun is an old single shot "Eatonia" (Cooey) and is still in great shape.

Very nice, I gave my fathers old .22 away quite a few years ago as it was way too unpredictable. Took the boy out with my sr22 though and he really enjoyed it. I just may start dragging him out on thursday nights with me as i'be recently started shooting trap. Happy fathers day Tim.

Only trouble with the old guns with open sights is that the sights get "fuzzy" after several years.
I've really noticed it on the .22 my granddad owned.
Used to be able to shoot dime sized groups when I was in my teens, not I'm lucky to keep 'em on paper.

Yes it is a funny thing about those older rifles . They do become less accurate over the years . But seem to miraculously become accurate again when handed down to the next generation .

just do like ole Sgt York did lick your finger and rub it on the frt sight. It takes off the glare and the fuzzyness...lol...
