My first stock build

A friend gave me a piece of walnut so i decided to give it a go. talked to Agingbower who gave me lots of encouragement Thanks Mike.
I thought yal might like to see my progress..
First problem i ran into was a nail inside the wood. Was able to cut around it but you can see the black it caused on the forearm. I dont wish nor have the talent to make a show piece here just wanted to do a basic stock fairly close to the factory..so some blemishes and such will be ok with me.
I got past the rail fitting so i think i can breath a little now thats a challenge



Now its sanding and shaping time..Im thinking about taking the whole middle out of the butt just to lighten it up and give me a hole for my rope any ideas or pics of yalls will be appreciated

Strum . . .you go dude! The walnut is pretty lite wood. Not so sure I would take too much off the butt . . .it balances the bow once the limbs are out there. Try it out first, see what you think. I like mine as it is . . .good balance and it's about the same weight as the factory stock.

How do you guys get the 90 deg cut in there for the end of the rail?? Chisel?

You've got a great start. I'd also wait on hollowing out the butt. My finished stock weighs only 7 oz. more than the factory stock. Gary

How do you guys get the 90 deg cut in there for the end of the rail?? Chisel?

i followed Aging's build and used a 1 1/4" forstner bit to start then table saw and then chisel,dremel,sanding block, and a lot of patience..
the other thing since i have it apart was put my trigger unit in the vise (padded) and since Boo had sent some abrasives..
I realy worked on the claws.. got em looking like chrome.

The nail and other little nicks and imperfections simply add character to the stock.

Just remember Stanley I can ship it anywhere anytime you want and it will get there. Oh, how old did you say you were???
My policy has change to ship for only very young people for reasons I can not discuss AT ALL.

counting the hours i have laying in bed thinking about how to do what...id say about ten millon so far
no realy i dont think i have over 9 or 10 actual hours in it at this point. but its still in the rough so we will see.
