Accuracy Problems
Re: Accuracy Problems
I shoot an Equinox as well as a friend, father in-law, and dad.We all shoot G.T. laser II's, 125 Thunderheads. They shoot great! I've killed 4 with mine and all dropped with-in 50 yards. My son has a Vortex with the same setup and it shoots well to. I think it's the brass insert for more f.o.c..I started with carbon express with allunmium inserts and they planed all over the place with several heads I tried.Good luck!

Re: Accuracy Problems
I've been using Wac'Em Exit 100 grain - 4 blade - cut on contact - replacable blade heads for a few years now. The tip can be re-sharpened, and I replace the main cutting blades after each deer.
So far I'm 6 for 6 on good hits, and the one bad hit was not the shooter or broadhead's fault. A scope failure caused the arrow to hit the shoulder joint, and I don't believe any broadhead would have had a chance at dropping that deer.
(Sumner is (I think) counting it as a lost deer in his stats, but I disagree with that decision as it's no way a true indicator of broadhead performance.) I've use these broadheads on my 2215 arrows and get great accuracy - and they group right with field points for me. Very similar to SlickTricks, but the tip is more of a cutting design, and the holes in the deer have been adequate for quick kills when I get them through the lungs. Been a little more selective in shot placement this season, and the two deer I've shot dropped within a very short distance (less than 40 yards).

Re: Accuracy Problems
Hey guys thanks for all of the advice. Speed was certainly the issue. I know thunderheads are not everybody's favourite but because a have a good supply of them I didn't want to disgard them. I tried going to a heavier arrow. I went with the Easton xx75 2119's. That setup worked. I am shooting with pinpoint accuracy now.
I have two other questions:
1. The exaclibur recommened setup for fixed blade is, the firebolt carbons with the 150 grain bolt cutter broadheads. Has anybody tried that setup with an exomag, exomax, or exocet 200. How did it work for you?
2. I was in bass pro the othe day and noticed that they now have thunderhead crossbow broadheads. They are supposedly made to work with the faster speeds produced by newer crossbows. Has anybody tried these?

Re: Accuracy Problems
There are several folks having success with the Boltcutters.
I don't know of anyone using the crossbow thunderheads.
I was looking at their website. Funny, I started using the term, "knock down" power when I started using the 2" cut, 3 blade broadheads. I see they are using the term . . .probably my fault.
Did you read their "tips". Here's one I hadn't used . . .
"3.Thunderheads and spin testing
It’s important to get any broadhead you have to spin true. The easiest way to do this with the Thunderhead is to screw the fully assembled head onto the arrow shaft, and tighten using the supplied wrench. Now untighten the head just a little and wait a few seconds. This will let the o-ring on the back of the ferrule regain its shape and help the head spin true. Now slowly retighten the head and you should be good to go!"
I'll have to start using that trick. Maybe that explains why we can turn the collar a little and it seems to help, sometimes.

Re: Accuracy Problems
Actaully the F-15 is not really a new concept. Similar broadheads have been made since the 40s but were never successful. A few of them were:sumner4991 wrote:. . .
These side by side blades are definitely different. Like you said, complicated. Yet, I look at them and I'm thinking, "why didn't somebody think of this a long time ago?"
. . .
1943 Fang
1945 Terrible Terry
1949 Cobra 6 Blade
1951 Coe Archery Slasher - 6 blade
1951 American Archery Sabre 6
1955 Blood Trail
1970s Cat-Claw had parallel 4 blade broadheads and later a 6 blade
For that matter mechanicals are not new either.
1953 Red Bow Mfg Co, Star Point
1955 Mechnical Killer
1956 Mohawk
Geronimo 1957
Fang made a mechanical back in the 60s

Re: Accuracy Problems
theres a ton of broadheads to use .,fixed razorcaps ae nice nice bleed channel, i do like the heavie heads at minumum 150, mostly shoot 170 now heavier works with my setup , slows them down makese stable and is transferring more k/e the x75 shafts are nice the x7 are the best and straightest you can notice the diff at longe ranges , other thing i like is the five inch vanes blaces are nice but twice the surface area of a 5 inch vaneto stabilize is also nicer

Re: Accuracy Problems
i am useing the fire bolts with the bolt cutters out of an exomax and they shoot great.i have only shot them at 20 and 30 yards but its been a bullseye every time not the same hole but close enough it does not matter and i would say that was me.i have not used them on game yet but cant hardly wait.
