cool... i have never welded before, but it looks like it would be a great asset for the workplace. we are expecting our 3rd child in a couple months, and i'm 34 so it's something that i wanted to do quite badly. and i don't find the age thing too bad, i think it helps me take it much more serious actually. i just do not like my current job and i see it going south quickly as they have lost a huge customer ( 20% of their annual gross) and possibly more and they have let some people go recently. not to mention after my shoulder surgery i just don't know if i could do the whole lifting big material over my head and stuff. we will see. i think it's a good thing to have, a heavy equip. operator i mean. backhoe/loader is a good one because i can do snow removal in the winter time, hopefully.. not to mention the instructor today said that just because i've only used the backhoe that i can still use the excavator, front loader ( wheel loader), dozer, etc. i just wanna do something i like to do for 40 - 50+ hours a week. plus i hear the money isn't all too bad either.

thanks all, course is going well, really having fun and taking it all in. seem to be picking it up good. one more day of in class then it's 2 weeks on the machine, backhoe. so far i got a 97% in the course. got 100% on my backhoe written test, TCP test, Trenching safety test. 89% on my WHMIS and 94% on my Confined Spaces test. Things are hoppin along fast and it's all good. 3 tests on Monday for my Surface Mining then the real fun starts. can't wait.

Good to hear things are going well. It's interesting how we appreciate learning new thing more as we age than we did when we were younger. I went back to school in my mid 30's to get a trade and did well also because I really needed and wanted to learn something new. :)

I hope it continues to go well for you.

ahhhhhhh, last day of in class done.. tomorrow we start the actual machine operating for 2 weeks, can't wait.. got a 97% overall on the inclass testing, not too bad for a fat old fart who hasn't been in school for about 15 years. can't wait to get on the machine, i was told it is a ton of fun to operate. woo hoo..
