Redemption for missing my buck/found my doe
Two days ago I got to thinking about the 6 point that I had missed (twice) and figured sooner or later he’d be back. So I went and moved my stand about 60 yards further up the trail so if he came back and got spooky because of my ignorance when I educated him that evening I would have the advantage of being closer to him than he realized before he figured out he had screwed up.
We had a cold front move through last night and the temps dropped to about 35 degrees, so I figured it would be a good morning to go sit for a while.
While sitting on the stand about 9 O’clock, two buzzards caught my attention landing in the trees about 50 yards from me, which just happened to be about the same area that I lost the trail of the doe last week I couldn’t find. They came down out of the trees and landed over the rise. I thought they may have found the doe I lost and I sit there watching for about 10 minuets all the time hoping I was wrong.
While thinking about going and looking over the rise after my hunt ended to see if they had found it. I caught movement out of the corner of my eye and looked over to the right and here comes my buck heading right past my stand. I put my scope on him and stopped him at 20 yards. At the shot he bolted into high gear and covered about 90 yards before losing sight of him. I though I heard him pile up but I wasn’t sure if I heard it… or was just wanting to hear it pile up, so I sit in the stand about 20 more minuets before getting down.
After getting out of the stand I eased over the rise and found what the buzzards had been feasting on and yep it was my doe. I had been within 15 yards of her last week and just didn’t see her piled up in a tree top that had blown down.
I gathered my gear and started tracking the buck and found it pilled up just past where I had last seen him. While pulling him out of some tangles I got a good surprise when I noticed he was a 7 instead of a 6 point. Now my confidence is back and I feel a little better about the missed shots but saddened about losing the doe when it was that close.

Nice buck congrats You put a good hit on him .
It is a shame about the doe but can not change what happened Just enjoy the clean harvest you made on the buck.

Save some for the rest of us!
You are going to limit out before the end of the month!
Nice buck! Comgrats. Good idea moving the stand. I love it when a plan comes together.

Great story...
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

That's a great looking buck! Good to hear you're back in the saddle!!
Too bad about the doe but you did give it your best effort to find her. These things happen.

Congrats on the Buck.
Buzzards gotta eat also. Alot of times a deer will do that, look for heavy cover to lay down in when they are wounded. I know the feeling of wounding a deer,I almost gave up hunting years ago because of that. But like you I got back out there. But that 1st shot after wounding one is a tough one because you have that in the back of your mind nagging at you.
