Now that the rail is done. YIPPIE! its a great time to locate and drill the trigger hole coming out of the rail.
Next is laying out the stock and cutting off the excess.

Barn door hinge!! TARA Need to hide my chisel around you.bugs wrote:It is starting to look real pretty This may be my lucky charm to get my next turkey with my CB The patience is amazing I cant cut and nail outside when it doenst have to look great but I couldnt imagine cutting anything in detail let alone using a chisel and not needing to start with a new blank. I chiseled out hinges on the shed door and they were less than perfect but worked

Re: Bugs Build along
Now I just take an excalibur stock and trace around with chalk to get a rough idea what can get cut off.
To the band saw and cut it out;
And it looks like this;
Then I drill out the trigger hole;
And a very important part is the small centering hole to keep you lined up.
And it looks like this.
These holes will blend in and be gone after while. Whew! Thats a lot of pics.

Next i reamed out the trigger hole and made sure the trigger has free movement.
Then Tara wants a 14" draw less the butt plate.

And now a lot of excess wood to take off. Break out the grinder.

Yep, me too! It reminds me why I don't do these things! I can see how I would bugger up the wood just a couple of moves!strum wrote:Looking good Mike .. brings back some memories
You are good as well as methodical!
Some people just like stepping on rakes
Re: Bugs Build along
Looking good Mike. Am I right in thinking that you can make the stock as long as a person wanted it to be. For example my Equinox stock is short for a tall guy like me. If and when I was able to have a custom stock made for myself could you make it longer so it would fit me more comfortably than the factory stock? Also, are these stocks you make setup so a person can use a Crank-a-roo? What would a factory stock be worth if I sold it?agingcrossbower wrote:Next i reamed out the trigger hole and made sure the trigger has free movement.

Re: Bugs Build along
You're coming right along Mike. That lower piece you trimmed off the blank looks big enough for a shotgun forend. Don't throw it away! It's fancy enough to make some small item from it. I just finished stocking a M-12 Winchester and am finishing stocking a M-92 Win. now. I start carving the stocks in a few weeks. Gary

Re: Bugs Build along
Raymond, I can make the draw anything you want. Do not see why a crank a roo could'nt be made to install. A brass thread insert and a flater butt should do the trick. You dream it up and I will let you know if its do able.
