I have 4 Thermacells and love everyone one of them. I hang one right beside me in the tree while hunting in the stand and they work great. I tied a a small braided rope to all of mine and ran it through the grille to hang the Thermacell since I didn't have the pouches for them.

i just bust one off an put in on tha seat bench in tha shoot'n house....or
the foot grate of the ladder stand.
its notta technical operation
put it where you want and change if needed.
great product, but never have thought in depth of performance placement.
it works and it works...................

They work best in still weather, in any form of wind then placement is crucial.
The unit exhausts a repellent, if that repellent is behind you, or under you blowing in the opposite direction then the unit will be useless.
I visualize it the same way I do any other form of breeze when I am hunting, what is the wind doing, and what is it bringing with it.
