After a long thought I picked the ibex crossbow over the axiom and exocet. I went down to are local store just to try out the fit and once I held the ibex it just felt perfect. The only thing I didnt like on the ibex and axiom was the scope the crosshairs where not clear but I was also looking at a wall 5 feet away in a shop with poor lighting. I didnt buy the one from the shop because they where wanting over 600 for the ibex.
I was wanting to order s5 system for the ibex. Does it come with everything needed to put them on?
I also read that the dissipator pads are not needed on the ibex. Is this true?

Don't need those D Bars & the S5 setup should be complete. Ibex is a fine model & it will do the job if'en you do yers!

Novaboy,
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your Ibex.
I too just got an Ibex (the end of August) and am enjoying it immensely.
Dissipator Bars and S5 are not needed; but I have both on my Ibex.
My Ibex came with the dissipator bars and I added the S5 as an accessory. If you wanted to add something and had to choose I would go S5; guilding the lilly is to use both.
I look at it as insurance on the money I spent on my Ibex. I do not hunt, strictly target ... so the issue some have about additional noise, etc.etc.etc you will have to ask others for their input.
All the best and do not worry about asking questions here; a lot of knowledge and folk willing to help.
Take care,
John

On a 175#er, I think the S5 would suffice.........

Novaboy - I agree with awshucks ... if you want to add to your bow the S5 will do what you need - great insurance. My Ibex came with the aluminum mainframe; let us know how you like the new synthetic mainframe.awshucks wrote:On a 175#er, I think the S5 would suffice.........
Here are two videos of Excaliburs being taped in slow motion as they are fired. Neither video shows a S5 in use, both show the dissipator bars. Interesting and fun to watch; these links were shared by others in this forum before.

Enjoy your new crossbow and the DVD that comes with it. The DVD is full of great information and demonstrations.
If you search this forum there have been some great posts on the S5 system and disipator bars. Reading what others thought helped me make my decision on what is on my crossbow.

Re: Ibex has just been ordered. I have a few questions
I have the Ibex SMF and it did not come with the dissipator bars or the S5. I put both on. I didn't like the basic scope that it come with so I put the Shadow Zone scope on the bow. I switched from the bolt utters and went with Slick Trick Magnums 100gr. This bow is both quiet and super deadly. It shot its first deer as well. The Slick Tricks are nothing short of amazing. Huge slug gun like hole and a super easy blood trail. I look forward to having this for many years to come I am overly with the Ibex model!!! You have a very good crossbow my friend!

I did very much what SniperWolf did. Only use 125 spitfires, you'd have thought it was hit with a slug and barley went 20 yards

Re: Ibex has just been ordered. I have a few questions
I ordered an Ibex over a month ago and bought the s5 to go with it. There is little to no sound difference, so if you are buying it to make it quieter, you are wasting time and money. The only benefit it offers is the added protection in case of a dry fire.
Re: Ibex has just been ordered. I have a few questions
I just ordered the all black s5 system for the ibex. I will be using it for hunting and target practice. But as Ive notice sound isnt a huge issue as by the time the deer hears the bow he has been hit. I bought the s5 for just extra protection against dry firing, because this is going to be my first crossbow and I hope my last. I would like to get the bars, but as almost everyone says there not need. If someone has a set there not using or know where to get them cheap. I will ad them, but as of right now what little bit of money I have to spend on hunting I need to renew my license, permits, and get some broadheads

Re: Ibex has just been ordered. I have a few questions
Spitfire mechanicals are pretty awesome if you want something that flies straight.
I put a spitfire maxx through a deer a little over two weeks ago, single lung hit, only went 30-40 yards. When I got up to him he had part of his lung hanging out of the wound. I personally went with mechanicals because i didn't want to spend all the time fletching and tuning.
A lot of people use the swhackers. I hear they are goo and sturdy but Ive read a few negative reviews about people getting zero penetration or the blades not deploying. I couldn't find one bad review on the maxi.
Good luck and welcome.

Re: Ibex has just been ordered. I have a few questions
I just got the bow together and watched the video. The video answered a lot of questions as did you guys. I thought I would post some pics. The scope that cam on the scope works great. I was in a building when I was looking at bow store. But once you look threw it outside it is great. Its going to be a few days until I get to fire it as i need to build a backstop and a target. I also want to wait until I get the s5 and dissipator bars. Just in case I dry fire it. I might fire it one time before added the s5 and d-bars just to see the difference it makes. As for weight it is very light and the synthetic rail seems to be very strong. Only time will tell.

That's a fine looking crossbow. I hope you have a great time shooting your new bow.

Great looking bow.
You will enjoy.
My Ibex has treated me well.
I will hunt with it before grabbing a firearm.
