just a thought
just a thought
since i am so new to crossbows, i constantly
worry about a dry fire. i am trying to make the same
mental notes each time i shoot. i have thought
about putting some type of reminder on the bow.
something like the word "arrow" taped to the
stock, just below the safety. anybody ever
do something like this, or, am i just being paranoid.

Good idea rccub23,
I am an aircraft mechanic and checklist are mandatory in every task.
Pilots also use them too like the following:
FLAPS!
LANDING GEAR DOWN!
I have yet to dry fire my Equinox.

Nothing wrong with a bit of paranoia. When dry-fires are considered paranoia is a good thing.

Like Hoagy I repeat "cock, lock, load. " I even had it written on a yellow post it stuck on the side of my computer monitor so I would always see it.

You can install the ADF device on your Excal CB. Look under Accessories, Scopes & Asseccories, Learn more, and the 2nd item is The Guardian Anti-Dry Fire Scope Mount. I believe that this will mount on any Excal CB.

Distraction is the number 1 reason for joining the fine folks in the famous DryFire Club.
Be extra vigilant when others are around, when they're chatting and you're shooting while listening, or when a cell phone rings, or when the dog barks, or ANYTHING at all that could make you put your bow down for a moment and then go back to shooting.
Number 2 reason for joining the DryFire Club is being confident it would/could never happen to you.

Re: just a thought
I am approching my first year and have used this so far to prevent a DF. After cocking, Safety on- bolt in Just before shooting I'll recheck the deck and say to my self bolt in- Safety off...... fire. The other regretable move is not removing the bolt before uncocking. As I have heard from the members here, its check the deck x 2 and check your quiver for a missing projectile.

Re: just a thought
I've gotten into a habit of making sure the nock is seated fully against the serving before I shoot . . .I just reach up and slide my finger along the arrow before I look through the scope and release the safety.
Yes . . .I have stuck my finger up there and found an empty rail . . .it happens.
Just make sure you bring your finger back down or you will experience something a little more painful than a dryfire.
