Re: Removeing old vanes
The Zip Strip from Norway is what I use for removing old fletchings and glue. It is a little expensive for what it does but makes up for it in functionality.

I use a ZIP STRIP tool. Makes for really fast work. After stripping and scraping, I clean the shafts with acetone. I use an old T-Shirt and I dip my carbon shaft right in the 1 qt can. Remove and clean really good. I put some acetone on my rag and clean the shaft side of the vane. This removes all oil and trash from the vane and promotes good adhesion of the vane. Hope this helps.

I have been using an old dull butcher knife for so many years that I doubt I could do it with anything else.

I use this nifty little tool that I found at Canadian Tire. Had it for awhile now and I think it cost me around $15.

I those blades for there are for cutting shingles, should be able to find just the blades from any where that sells shingles and be real cheap if you have a handle to throw them in!

Mr. Krug, this is the second time that you have shown me that the tool for doing it is right in my shop. Now I just have to remember.j.krug wrote:I use this nifty little tool that I found at Canadian Tire. Had it for awhile now and I think it cost me around $15.
Re: Removeing old vanes
Yes. I lay it down (so to speak) to shave off the old vane and stand it up a little to scrape the old glue off the arrow shaft.Hoagy wrote:j.krug wrote:I use this nifty little tool that I found at Canadian Tire. Had it for awhile now and I think it cost me around $15.

Re: Removeing old vanes
I use the linoleum knife as well. Started by making my own from carpet knife, then found the replacement blades, $4 handle and have used em since. Work better than the stripper I bought earlier, much cheaper replacing blades.
