Newbie!
Hello All, wanted to introduce myself as after much research, I'm planning on picking up an Equinox in the next wk or so. That along with a Nikon Bolt XR scope and some RazorTricks should hame me ready for the Mi deer season.
It seems from my online searches that you cannot find an Excal with a full package but less the scope. I def want to go with the Nikon so don't need the scope that comes with the package. I guess it can always be sold or traded.
Question...what height scope rings are you all using?

Re: Newbie!
I put the Weaver Black Matte Tactical # 48349, 1" medium rings on my Equinox using the Nikon Bolt Xr scope. Low rings would not work with the Nikon scope unless you were to cut off the forward end of the scope mount rail because of the scope length.
I had to file a notch onto the scope ring base to enable the scope to be moved back to the position shown in the picture. The notch was necessary for the forward scope ring as the Equinox base only has 5 notches & I needed a 6th. http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/catalo ... _and_rings
This scope has a 3" to 4" eye relief. Filing the extra notch was very easy after the exact location was marked. This scope is very accurate for my setup.

I use Leupold rifleman detachable low rings.
Which ever rings you choose mount your Nikon as low possible with aluminum alloy rings.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the input, it's greatly appreciated!l
I think I will be getting in touch with Danny Miller...from what I've read on here he is a great guy to do business with.
Deerstalker,
I was worried about that Nikon scope having such a short body which would limit it's fore/aft adjustability for eye relief. I hate stretching to make a scope "fit". I have my rifles set up so I can shoulder them with my eyes closed and have a perfect view thru the scope when I open them. That's the goal with the bow too. (I'm hoping!) Question, why did you use tactical wide body rings to mount the Nikon? Could you have avoided the filing issue if you had narrower rings?
Anyone else using the Nikon Bolt XR scope? If so, did you have eye relief issues?

Re: Newbie!
With the scope set up as pictured my eye relief is perfect at approximately 3". I did not have any narrow medium rings to try for my CB set up. The filing of the notch is really a simple operation and it was suggested to me by both Danny Miller and Boo. I believe it took about 30/40 minutes to complete and I left the rail mounted on the CB just covered the trigger housing with a rag to stop any filings falling into the housing. If you look at the Matrix rails you will find that they come with more notches, http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/catalo ... cope_mount
This rail will fit/work on any Excal CB and provides a much wider range of scope mounting positions and may be an option for you. This rail also allows a more rearward mounting position as the rail notches start closer to the safety. See pictures on Excal site. You will see that the rear notch is actually back from the center position between the mounting screws.
This is a pic of 20 yard accuracy using the Nikon scope.
