New Matrix 380 owner .. first year deer hunter

Post by JTL »

I took the plunge yesterday & bought my first crossbow: a Matrix 380. I still haven't even shot it! I almost went with an Exocet 200, but I like the scope, grip, anti-dry fire system, suppressor system, and more compact package of the Matrix.

I also bought a Morrell Yellow Jacket Supreme Field Point target (from Walmart). But I'm considering taking it back and buying a Rinehart (through Amazon because I can't find one local in my small town) to enable broadhead practice.

Only change from stock is that I added a Blackhawk 9"-13" bipod to the front sling swivel.

Thanks for the welcomes!

I ordered a Rinehart 18:1 target & a T-handle bolt puller today. Should be here the beginning of next week. Felt like worthy insurance to make the $10 bolts last as long as possible.

Can't wait to shoot it!

Do any of you guys leave your cocking aid on between hunts? It seems convenient to leave it on so it's not forgotten when heading out. It also takes the string off the suppressor pads, which should help with their longevity. It doesn't seem to pull the string back enough to cause any limb re-shaping. I wouldn't store it between seasons this way. I'm just talking about overnight between hunts.

Thoughts?

If your string rests on the pads you need to adjust your brace height. I've seen many matrix 380s that are touching when they come new out of the box. Probably from the string stretching after it was boxed up. You will need a bow stringer to take the pressure off the string so you can put a few more twists in it. Ideally your string should be 1-2 string widths off the bumpers.
