This morning was cold at -18 so I thought at 7:15 to get dressed and go for a set. Headed for a place down the road close to the Minising swamp and met the farmer at the road, had a short chat and off across the field. This is the spot that another guy was hunting Christmas day. I have my favorite spot and I work my way in on snowshoes to my spot. 6 inches of fresh snow that covered 60% of the ice noise so I felt good. I get there snip off some red gads that grew up over the summer in front of the tree I sit and settled back.
I start with soft DR calls with the hand call and wait for a couple minutes. Try again a little louder for about a minute and wait again for a couple minutes. I turn on the caller and put on a close distress call and turn up the volume for a couple minutes and mute for a couple. After closely watching for a few I turned on the caller again and turned up the volume to Top end. It runs for about a minute and I shut it off and then catch movement to my left. I turn the caller back on and lower the volume a bit and the yote cuts behind the caller at the bush line in the first pic. I fire a shot and connect and he does the spin arama the fox bang comes back on and I let it run for about a minute and then hit replay and the rabbit distress comes on for about a minute and mute. I look at the time and its 15 minutes into the set. After a minute I hit the mute and play the same distress for about a minute and catch movement from the left there is another dog coming down the woods and hhe stops facing me and looks at the critter, Bang down he goes with the tail warning wag !

Cool. That is something getting 2 in one set. Makes me want to dust off the 223 in January!!!!
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.
