well this morning was day 6 of hunting this same tom and his side kick. i was going to hunt another bird but hate to give up. i could not interest the birds at all this year they will come but just not wound up yet if you ask me. i watched 2 for six days and 6 days they have done something different,
closest i could get them was about 80 yards .i watched them for hours with hens and the hens want nothing to do with them i really dont think they are breeding yet in my location . i did get the big guy to come today but not in any hurry. i shot the bird with my daughters 870jr in 20 gauge at 33 yards and just dumped him. this little gun is the favorite gun in our house its lite no kick and works great on bear deer and turkey. im guessing its dumped at least 15 turkeys. no need to punish this old body with a 12 ga. also had a chance at a coyote as day broke 20 feet away on the other side of the stream and let him walk.any other day he would have bit the dust. turkey was one of my best 10" beard 23lbs. 12 oz. and both spurs 1&5/16 .got to knock off hunting a week or so and do some work on a little truck i bought .hope the turkeys are a little more ready to be hunted then.

A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.
What kind of ammo do you use in that little 20 ga? I started using a 20 ga T/C pro hunter two years ago after getting beat up by a 3 1/2 inch Mossberg for years. I have bagged eight birds with it using Federal heavyweight #7 shot but those shells are EXPENSIVE.
CONGRATS!! I watched a tom strutting and gobbling on the roost this am then at 5:50AM him and his four hens flew down I did some calls but cannot compete with what he had.
When the gals go to the nest hunting will be best!!

i shot that bird with Winchester extended rage supreme elite turkey loads#5 and they are only 1&1/8OZ .the barrel on the gun is very short and i just have an undertaker choke in it . i try and hunt turkeys like deer and shoot close .i have made shots at longer ranges using rem shells that sell for about $35 for 10 rounds .federal also make shells called prairie storm i hear work gret for turkeys. they are sold as upland bird loads with a picture of a phesant on the box .i have some but just have not used them yet
