Interesting, back in 1999 the MNR gave me the same info regarding a Fallow Deer after I reported one on a farm I hunt. It jumped a Farmers fence twice daily to feed with the sheep and Mr. Farmer did not like that much at all. Farmer's brother had deer steak on his mind but only educated nice racked fallow because was a terrible shot (numerous times) with a Winchester Lever 30-30.
The Farmer asked me for help because the Fallow started running away at the first sight of humans and his not so hot shot brother gave up trying to shoot it.
So, next time deer hunting I take my tack driving .17 Ackley Hornet and after a 30-40 minute wait he shows up on time. I had to belly crawl to get into prone position under the electric fence for a good shot.
It was hard to get a clear shot because the greedy and hungry free loafer fed with his head down most of the time. I decided to get his attention by raising my leg upward and wiggle my foot only to curse myself for touching the electric fence. His head went up immediately and after gathering my composure I sent a 20 grain Burger Hollow Point traveling at 3,800 fps into the fallow's brain only to witness an instant drop and death. I told Farmer to call his brother.
