Been experimenting again.
For years I've had the idea floating in my head of making a call for several species that could be converted from one to another by just switching reeds.
Finally took a step in that direction buy assembling some parts:
(call body, deer reed, duck reed, crow reed)
If I want a deer call I simply install the deer reed:
Or if I want duck:
Or crow:
Next is to turn & fit an insert for a predator call reed (probably similar to the crow reed insert on the mouthpiece end).
Then I'll make protective covers for the spare reeds when they aren't in the call.
I'll try to get out and test them this fall, who knows I may eventually make up some kits for sale after I'm sure they will hold up in use.

Wabi you need a predator call.
Re: OT - game calls
Sounds great! I plan on some duck hunting this year on the river an always have a crow call with me . If there like our deer calls I would be proud to hunt with them!
Re: OT - game calls
I actually found a predator "insert" that fits this call body in my collection of calls. It was a clear acrylic predator call I got in an exchange with other call makers and the reed portion fits perfectly in this call. I'll probably make a black delrin insert to fit this call, but at least I have a pattern.Shotnbeer wrote:Wabi you need a predator call.
Now all I have to do is make protective covers for the inserts not being used, (going to buy an inexpensive dowel rod and bore it to save time & money) and I'll be able to put everything in a pouch to go in my fanny pack without worrying about destroying reeds.
