Trigger Tech...Single Stage or 2 Stage?
Trigger Tech...Single Stage or 2 Stage?
Thinking about getting a TT trigger unit for my M355. Currently my trigger isn't bad, as long as I take the slack out while the safety is on. When I do this the break is nice and clean, otherwise there is a long, and not too smooth takeup which I hate. Which is the crux of my problem...taking the slack out this way just plain makes me nervous!
All of my rifles and pistols have glass rod breaking triggers. That's what I'm used too and what I like. But I'd like to hear the arguments for the 2 stage trigger.
I also wonder at the comments on the TT website where they specify that the Matrix Hunter 2.5 is "tuned" to the Matrix. So is the Single Stage 2.5 NOT tuned to the Matrix level of poundage? Is the 2.5lbs really 3.5lbs when on a Matrix? Would like to hear comments from those that have each of these triggers, especially if they have the Matrix 355/380. Thanks!

Re: Trigger Tech...Single Stage or 2 Stage?
I just ordered mine. Basically the single stage trigger is less effected by bow draw poundage. It should be 2.5 lb on the matrix. Across all models the single srage should read between 2 lb and 2.5 lbs. I recommend you call triggertech. They will answer all you questions and concerns. I got the 2 stage for the ability to abort a shot in the feild if needed. Also added safety

Drew, I emailed them with a question, got the response that night! I'm thinking single stage for the 330 M.
Good luck, post back after you decide.

I just called TT and had a nice conversation...I think I'll be going with the single stage myself as well. Now I just need to see if the wallet can handle it!

Re: Trigger Tech...Single Stage or 2 Stage?
I just returned tonight from the cottage upnorth. That is where I shoot my Matrix 380 as I can shoot at basicly any distance. I was amazed again by the accuracy of the 380 (less than 1 inch size groups all the way to 50 yds),but just as amazed at the Trigger Tech single stage 2.5. I finished shooting one evening and was in disbelief at the consistancy of the pull of the TT. It seriously can compete with the Timney triggers I have on my deer rifles. Believe me you won't be disappointed with the TT single stage trigger in my opinion they are awesome.

Re: Trigger Tech...Single Stage or 2 Stage?
I had a great factory trigger with a custom job. It was a single stage. No pretravel, it's against the wall and a a little pressure and TWANG! I loved the single stage feel...until I bought a TT 2-stage.
I wanted the trigger pull on all my excals be identical, so I purchased a second 2-stage TT and couldn't be happier with my purchase.
Someone mentioned taking the slack out of their trigger, (before taking the safety off, I assume), and this is a good way to have an accidental dry fire IMO. It has happened on the early 405 triggers and I don't see how the older, used exo trigger could be any more reliable. I would never recommend squeezing the trigger to get the slack out.

Just to clarify my comments above about taking the slack out of my stock trigger while the safety is on. I only do this once I am on target and ready to shoot.

Drew, if you saw the internal parts of your trigger, you might stop taking up the slack right away. If lack of trigger creep is that important to you, you'll be much safer with a Trigger Tech trigger unit.
Once the slack is taken out, what happens if you decide not to take the shot? You might have less than a few thou sear engagement and the sear engagement will not reset until you pull the string back into the trigger unit. It's not likely, but it is possible.
Please play it safe.

Very good point Boo, I had not considered that. Luckily I haven't had to do this in the field but once and it ended up with an actual shot on a doe. Still it si all about safety in the field, and all the more reason to get the TT unit!
