Forum and Matrix 380 issues

Post by Venango41 »

I've had my new 380 matrix for a couple weeks now, and I'd like to thank the fellow forum members for posting their thoughts and findings on the matrix bows. The amount of information posted and in the Excalibur videos allowed me to understand my first crossbow before I began shooting it.
Last night I bench rest sighted it in using 20" Easton arrows at 505 grains, which includes the 150 grain head. At 20 yards my first shot was in the bulls eye, although a bit high and to the right. I realize this was a lucky chance, but the accuracy and speed impressed me. I tweaked the windage and height to be as close to zero as I could. When I moved to 30 yards I was about 8" low and still to the right. Remembering the video I reduced the speed on the scope to 340 fps. It still shot low. I then reduced to 330 fps and it was on the high side. Based on the arrow charts for a 502 grain arrow, I set the speed at 335 fps, and it was right on. Moved to 40 yards and still hitting elevation perfectly. Windage was about 2" off center to the left.
The package I have has the varizone scope, and I found it to be very clear and accurate. As for the trigger, mine must have been prepared as the factory expects it to be. I found it to have a bit of slack up to the wall, and then it was a nice crisp release. I have no complaints. What a bow!

Welcome to the forum and I'm glad it's working out for you. That's an awesome and crazy accurate, powerful bow you've got there. Do you have a level bubble mounted on your riser? If you don't i recommend getting one. Danny Miller at Horizontal Archery sells them for about twenty bucks and they're well worth every penny. It'll really help eliminate left and right arrows especially as you start extending your range. :D

Thanks for the replies. I don't have a level on the bow, but will get one from Danny. With regard to me selecting this bow to start - I'm an old stick bow Trad guy, and the recurve appealed to me to be able to adjust the brace height and change strings without going to a Shop. I was dreading the trigger and scope, because of the threads taking issue with them. I used it and they are fine for me. Hope it stays that way, and now I will have to check my surroundings with my rangefinder. Looking forward to opening day tomorrow.

Yes you did start at the top. I've started with the Ibex.Couldn't come up with the money in to short a time. maybe next year. but I am loving my Ibex I am getting about 306 f.p.s. and am tearing up two" stick on red bulls eyes out to forty yards. I think with my speed that should be about my limit. If the deer or hog is not on its tippy toes. But you shouldn't have any of these concerns 380f.p.s. that's nuts.. Good luck to you in the woods..........bubba........

Thanks Bubba. Well, hopefully I can post having a good hunt next week. This 13" pull is a bit challenging. The speed is unreal.
