Doe in estrus scent you use?

And what kind of reaction did you observe with bucks?

I am looking at getting some next week and want to try something different than I usually use.

I dont use any synthetic scents because I have had them backfire on me a few times. I try to keep it as natural as possible. No scent for me...

X2 on the Deer Quest smoke sticks.

Also sold as Tink's (Rut) - at least the patent number is identical.

Wow How the heck can you get the right kind of smell to draw them .. i wonder what the science is behind that. Would never in a million years think they would work.

thanks and keep them coming.

only one I buy and use now is trailsend #307 I don't like to reccommend stuff unless I've actually tried it and had good results. All I will say is I won't hunt deer without it now unless I run out.Has a pleasant smell too.If they get a wiff they will come or you don't have any deer around. The only down side I've seen is its extremly effective on the bucks when your after a Doe.

Code Blue Gel if you want to attract mainly bucks, but I found it to work best right at the end of the seeking phase, before doe are receptive, the bucks are looking for the first hot doe! Second phase too, it seems to work good. Trails End 307, i use it on every hunt, as well as a bedding scent, Buck Butter from Lowes Scents, smells like deer beds! It just works like Ever Calm, deer come into the area looking for other deer, relaxed! 307, never spooked a deer either, it is a curiosity scent, and it works well.

Good Luck, have fun, hunt hard!

deer are curious by nature. a butcher once told me he could drag perfume on a rag and could get deer to follow. many years ago i would spend close to like $200 in bottle scents.when it comes to doe in heat scents ive had minimal success.even tried that trails end 307 stuff that smells like tinks 69 with a little annise oil lol! ive had does come in and wind my scents and they mostly skeedaddle.having does as live bait is the best thing come rut time.ive seen it several times that scents can spook them does clear out of the country and that doesnt do any good for hopes of seeing a buck. im thinking doe s dont wanna be anywhere near another doe that is in heat.i say try those bottles if you must but scouting and finding good sign and putting time in is better than throwing money at a bottle.it all turns to ammonia if its not fresh so i dont trust any of it anymore.good hunting!

A few years back one of the hunting magazines did a field test study (kinda/sorta) at one of those deer ranches in Texas.

The subject of the article was "mock scrapes".

Anyhow, they set up four different mock scrapes and then with camera's kept track of the activity over a period of time (maybe a week, don't remember now for sure).

Anyhow, they used Doe urine in one scrape and Buck urine in the other for the "real/fake" scrapes.

Then did two "control" scrapes. One contained "human urine" (the guy doing the article pee'd in it every day) and in the second they used a bottle of "new car scent" - the stuff you spray on fabric to give it that "new car smell".

The results, at least to me, were a little surprising.

Two scrapes "tied" for most frequent visits -

The buck urine (no surprise there) AND
The human urine - so much for masking human scents (?????)

Next most frequent, at less than 50% of the visits of the first two was the Doe urine (which just about every "expert" says to use pre-rut) and then finally the New Car Scent - which didn't scare them away - in fact it got nearly as many visits as the doe urine.

As I stated in my other post, I use the scent sticks. "Apple or curiosity" ones in the early bow (Oct) and now I switch over to the A/B, estrous or "rutrageous". In Ontario we have to use "synthetic" so don't have the advantage of using some of the most highly rated stuff.

The last two deer I shot (arrowed), came right into the stick while it was smoking - led by their nose (or at least that's how it looked to me 25 yards away).

Maybe they would have come in with "no scent", but it certainly didn't "scare them away" - so for that reason I continue to use them.
