Leupold VXR 1.25 x 4 illiminated...

Post by New guy »

Leupold VXR 1.25 x 4 illiminated with the fire dot duplex retical is the scope I have mounted on a marlin guide gun
The optics are great
The illumination is usable from sunlight to low light

I am looking to upgrade the scope on my matrix 355

Since I do not use both in the same season I could move the scope back and forth, from the gun to the bow

Is any body using this scope?

Not quite the same scope. I'm using the VX-R 3-9X40 with the ballistic firedot reticle. Love it! Love it! I absolutely recommend yours for your crossbow.

I just put the Mark AR Mod 1 on mine. Its a 1.5x4 firedot. Haven't had time to get out with it.
Rackinup uses the Patrol and the mark 1. He will probably chime in.
Boo has a VXR Hog on his Micro.

No reason why you shouldn't use it.

I have two leupold Firedot scopes in 1.5-4x. To me, they are perfect for crossbows.

I have used a scope for double duty, on a crossbow and MZ. Avoid using vertical split rings, quick detach is better because you won't need to make sure your reticle is plumb after each switch you make.

Here's a tip. Whichever season comes first, firearms or Xbow, sight in for that weapon. When you move it to the next weapon, keep track of your elevation and windage adjustments so you can quickly return to zero when that season is done.

For me, my MZ sighted in at 100y was almost the same as a 30y Xbow zero. It was only off by a few inches.

Got to love that guide gun! I have a 45-70 GG topped with a Luepold VX2 1x4. I wonder how that scope would work on my 355? This was the caliber that got me into reloading.

What's the bite like? Does it recoil up and back?

For hunting elk and moose I use a hornady 350 g jacked flat nose bullet with a stout load of RX 7
Considering the limitations imposed by the recoil and marlin trigger this gun is quite accurate
The guide gun with the scope is a light weight package and does have serious recoil shooting from a bench
The forend comes up, and she kicks

I also use a 405 g cast bullet and trail boss powder loaded to around 800 FPS
Punching a 9 inch gong at 100 yards from standing position is real fun
