Screw size??

Post by woodmnctry »

Realize this has been posted umpteen times before --- now I cannot find the thread that was discussing replacing the scope mounting screws (Allen head) with torx style --- what size are they and where to find SS torx replacements?-- as I recall one of the members may have actually been selling a set of replacement screws?? I am in the midst of doing the Winter tune in preparation for those critters nominally known as turkeys in a month or so.

McMaster-Carr has them my memory fails me on size 8/32? they have the 3/8 length i don't knowed about 5/16" so you may have to grind abit & use a die to clean up the threads

If you run an 8/32 nut on the screw first, then grind, the nut cleans up threads pretty well on the way off. :D

Take some advice and get the correct size 8-32 X 1/4" or 5/16" length screws. I had some 3/8" I cut shorter, even ran the nut over the threads several times to clean them up. Most of the time that works fine but the aluminum trigger housing is much softer than the screw, you run the risk of stripping it out if your threads aren't clean. Been there and done that :(
Fastenal is also a good place to find the right screws.

I just got my replacement 380 and decided to head to fastenal and get the correct stainless/steel allen sockets. Heres the SKU numbers for the two different lengths.
SKU 73420 8-32 x 1/4"
SKU 73430 8-32 x 5/16"

These numbers are for the 18-8 Stainless and the 316 stainless runs about .40 more. Hope this helps out.....
