We are well aware of the difficulty getting some of the recoil plate shoulder bolts out, I have probably done a thousand of them. :D

Here's the deal, we had complaints about fasteners loosening so we made sure all important fasteners are secured with blue Loc-Tite. The problem is getting them out can be frustrating. The other issue is some of the early shoulder bolts had shallow Allen key holes making them easy to strip.

Here is the best way to get the little devils out:

1. Make sure you have a very good fitting 1/8" allen wrench. The "T" handle style work best because they are easier to keep straight which will help avoid stripping the screws. We use these in our service department.

2. Try to get at least one per side out, usually the bolts closest to the stirrup come out the easiest. Then swing the recoil plate out of the way so you can pull the limb out.

3. With the limb out of the way you can twist the other screw out with vise-grips if they won't budge.

4. We have also has some luck using a small torch with a fine flame and heating the bolts. This will melt the Loc-tite and help with removal.

5. If you damage the bolts you can pick up another set at your local fastener store, the size is 10-32 x 1" (standard for Matrix and Micro's without bars). Or, give us a call and we can send you some if you have no luck finding any.

I hope this helps!

I agree that the Air Brakes are heavy. However, an esteemed member of this forum told me early on in my quest for extreme, long range accuracy that adding weight to the front of my xbow(380&405) would reduce the natural front end rise upon firing the xbow. Additionally, that adding wheel weights to the stirrup will help attenuate the viberation, thus noise from the stirrup.
I have 2 all out xbows. The M380 has the Aging stock, TT, Weighted stirrup with rubber wrapping and Camo tape, will have Zeiss 75, shrink wrapped and slightly repositioned arrow retaining spring, string silencers, Excal Brake pads, Air Brakes, aftermarket string with silencers, Zombies/FOCs. This is my target and daily shooting xbow AND back-up hunting xbow. The M405 is all the same except factory stock, Optimizer/2-8 Lighted Duralyt. It is THE hunting xbow. I've accepted the extra weight on the stirrup and Air Brakes for the accuracy enhancement and quietness.
A side note: I've never had a deer jump the string(that I've noticed) ; and at long range, the deer stand still and look for the noise. At 50+ yds, even when staring straight at me, they freeze at the sound of the shot. I like a very quiet xbow, but I strongly believe noise is not our enemy.

Better change title name.... That's one of the reasons for buying an Excal.
Not many manufacturers are going to help out like that ( big secrects is guess ).
I would like to see proper torque specs for all fasteners. Havent found in seach.

We actually don't have a torque spec for the shoulder bolt, it just needs to be tightened to the shoulder. The limb bolt torque spec is 20.5 ft/lb.

I think sometimes torques specs get people in trouble if their torque wrench is not calibrated which most aren't. In production we have special power wrenches set to a number but not a specific torque value. Bill always said to tighten them the best you can with a standard allen wrench and that should do it. This as always worked for me. :D
